Finding the Words - curatorial project at SUNY JCC
February 8 - March 21, 2024
Opening Reception | Thursday, February 8, 6 - 8:00pm
This group exhibition, curated by Erika Diamond, explres the connections between words, coping, memory, and loss through works using text in various media and languages. In the most difficult or sublime of moments, it can be hard to communicate our deepest emotions. Often these experiences, rooted in or worn by the body, are in need of catharsis. These artists use text in the form of lists, poetry, prose, and protest in an attempt to heal, connect, and…find the words.

Reiterations in Glass - curatorial project at SUNY JCC
Linked by the use of repetition, this exhibition features a breadth of techniques and perspectives in the ever-expanding field of Glass. Each artist on view was previously featured in Corning Museum of Glass’s publication New Glass Review 42. Curator Erika Diamond was introduced to many of the exhibiting artists as one of the jurors for that publication, alongside Susie Silbert, Sarah Darro, and Simón Ballen Botero. This curatorial project acts as an extension of that process of discovery and as a way to further connect the JCC community to the resources of the nearby glass museum.

Self
two person exhibition with Erika Diamond & matt lambert
Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh PA
April 14 - August 19, 2023
Self explores concepts related to cross-cultural expectations of gender, and what type of interactions will hence follow in our lives, from the most mundane elements of self to the defining moments that make up our lives. The exhibition will specifically highlight the work of artists matt lambert and Erika Diamond, who explore the breadth and confines of gender identity, connection, contact, and the body through wearable works of art.
matt’s work presents objects that create space for the viewer to question positionality, fixedness, and chimerism that goes beyond binary thinking. Erika’s work is an ongoing series of fashionable safety vests created with bullet-proof Kevlar material, rooted in a desire to promote awareness about the safety of the LGBTQ community, recognizing the need for all people to feel safe while expressing their individuality.
Opening Reception: Friday, April 14, 5:30 – 8:00 PM, FREE and open to the public

In Conversation: Sebastian Duncan-Portuondo, Cassils and Erika Diamond
Urban Glass via Zoom, March 2, 6:00-7:00pm
In this virtual conversation, Sebastian Duncan-Portuondo will discuss his altar connected to the Orlando, Florida Pulse nightclub murders that is a centerpiece of this solo exhibition and partially built from the DISCOmosaics made by the public. He will be in conversation with artists Cassils and Erika Diamond, who will discuss their artworks 103 Shots (video, 2016) and Imminent Peril - The Queer Collection (textiles, 2018-present), respectively. An emphasis will be a discussion of trans and queer “life” and “joy,” both often obscured in conversations around death. The virtual panel will be moderated by exhibition curator Alpesh Kantilal Patel.
